- Tragic Incident: A stampede-like situation near Gundicha Temple on June 29 resulted in three deaths and over ten injuries, prompting swift medical response and heightened safety measures.
- Robust Security and Preparations: Odisha Govt. authorities deployed 10,000 security personnel, 250 AI-enabled CCTV cameras, and NSG snipers to ensure safety amid terror alerts. The state prepared for rain with waterlogging solutions.
The festival, rooted in spiritual significance, symbolizes renewal and devotion, with devotees believing that pulling the chariots cleanses sins. The chariots, rebuilt annually using sacred wood, stood 45 feet tall, crafted by 200 artisans in 58 days. Despite the challenges, the Rath Yatra’s grandeur captivated global visitors, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah joining celebrations in Ahmedabad. The event continues until July 5, with the Bahuda Yatra marking the deities’ return.
